Introduction

In 2011, artist Yuan Zeqiang performed his residency at the "Desheng Art Workshop Phase I" in Shunde during his undergraduate study, it was also his first personal art project in which he tried to present "disharmony" collage painting works on paper. A bit rigid may his works were, but these traces of creation formed a unique personal style. He combined some surreal factors into the pictures, and his vivid art form made his characteristics stand out naturally which was favored by many galleries. In the following years, he participated in some important exhibitions, making this green "disharmony" his personal symbol gradually. But at the same time, his picture seemed to be over-operated, especially in large picture, the vividness of "disharmony" gradually becomes slightly dull.

To solve this problem, the artist made difficult exploration. In 2015, improvements were made in his work "Association Keys" exhibited in Sabaki Space, he separated four wooden pegs equidistantly by several mirrored glass, each of which reflects upwards, so a window to the sky seems to be open within this work.

This exhibition is named "sky", which in fact is the artist's attempt to change into a three-dimensional vertical relationship in work construction of, thus forming a "vacuum" of repeated circulation. For example, the work "Wooden Ladder", the space between the stair steps becomes mirrored glass, so when the work leans against the wall, the sky will fall from the top and one can feel a rising sky on the stairs. His another work, "Sky", regards reality as an imaginary space. The sky is full of various surreal transparency and dislocations, and the picture shows the sky in the mirror.

This exhibition is a metamorphosis for the artist who gradually eliminates the shallow exquisiteness of plane collage, and makes his works become a more thick "emptiness". Perhaps this stair to the sky is his way to new dimension through self-denial.

The exhibition will last until December 12th and will be open to the public free of charge.
