Shen Xin

Artist

Shen Xin (1990, Chengdu) lives and works in London and Amsterdam. Through films and video installations, as well as performative events, Shen’s practice examines and fabricates techniques and effects of how emotion, judgment, and ethic circulate through individual and collective subjects. By focusing on interpersonal complexity and political narratives, their films often aim to generate reflexiveness to dismantle dominant power structures.

Shen’s recent solo presentations include To Satiate, MadeIn Gallery, Shanghai (2019); Methods of Inhabiting, K11 Shanghai (2018); Sliced Units, Center for Chinese Contemporary Art, Manchester (2018); half-sung, half spoken, Serpentine Pavilion, London (2017); and At Home, Surplus Space, Wuhan, China (2016). Chen Zhou

Artist

Chen Zhou is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice involves cinematic language, painting and writing. He believes the act of labeling is a prison and that freedom resides in that uncertain moment before definition. Whether it is by exploring death in contemporary life, or by deconstructing our existence in a humorous way, Chen Zhou's works revolve around imprisonment and liberation. Always attempting to dismantle restrictive structures, Chen Zhou's works reveal the absurdity of labels and shed light over the uncertainty of today's world. He now lives and works in Shanghai.

His first feature, Life Imitation (2017), received the New: Vision Award at the CPH: DOX Film Festival, Asian Perspective Award at DMZ film festival, and has been included in the Official Selection of 61st BFI London Film Festival. He is also selected of ArtReview Future Greats 2018.

His latest project Blue Hole was exhibited at White Cube Hong Kong in 2018. His solo exhibitions include: The mirror will soon disappear in the world, Chapter I: The illusion in the mirror makes me hardly see the mirror,Cc Foundation, Shanghai, China(2020); Stayed, 7, Hunsand Space, Beijing, China(2019); Kaufman, AikeDellarco, Shanghai, China(2014); I’m not not not Chen Zhou, Magician Space, Beijing, China (2013); Talk, Platform China Contemporary Art Institute, Beijing, China (2009). Lu Yang

Artist

Lu Yang (b. 1984) is a Shanghai-based multimedia artist who creates fantastical, often morbid and shocking visions of death, sexuality (or a-sexuality), mental illness, and neurological constructs of both real lifeforms and deities. Deeply immersed in the subcultures of anime, video games, and sci-fi, Lu Yang’s output spans 3D-animated films, video game-like installations, holograms, neon, VR and even software manipulation, often with overt Japanese manga and anime references. Music — electronic and always frenzied — features prominently. Her works involve frequent collaborations with performers, designers, experimental composers, robot companies, and idol stars.

Lu Yang has been featured in important solo and group exhibitions at venues such as the UCCA (Beijing), Centre Pompidou (Paris), M woods museum (Beijing), Spiral (Tokyo), MAXXI, National Museum of XXI Arts (Rome), Sadie Coles (London), Fridericianum (Kassel), Société (Berlin), DFB Performance Gallery (Chicago), Chronus Art Center (Shanghai), Momentum (Berlin), MOCA Cleveland USA (Cleveland), and Tampa Museum of Art (Tampa). LuYang has also participated numerous Biennales such as: Shanghai Biennale 2018 & 2012, Athens Biennale 2018, Liverpool Biennial 2016, Montreal International Digital Art Biennial 2016, 56th Venice Biennale China Pavilion 2015, and Fukuoka Asian Art Triennale 2014, etc .

Jiang Zhi

Artist

Jiang Zhi,1971 Born in Yuanjiang, China

1995 Graduated from China Academy of Fine Arts

Currently lives and works in Beijing, China

Jiang Zhi works with a range of mediums; such as photography, video, and installation. From the early stages of his artistic career, Jiang has been writing novels while taking photographs, which stems from his deep interest in poetry. Jiang Zhi has consciously positioned himself at the intersection of poetry and sociology. He fervently weaves familiar and mundane social experiences into his works, while at the same time maintaining the tenseness between daily life and our reading of the text. Hence, he has consistently avoided unspecific personal emotions and political statements, and shies away from feeble expressions and critiques. In this aspect, Jiang’s works are open-ended, supple, and possess a taste of poetic vigour.

Jiang Zhi was awarded the academic achievement of Reshaping History (Chinart from 2000-2009) in 2010, Asian  New Force IFVA  Critics Award in 2001 , and also received the Chinese Contemporary Art Award (CCAA) in 2000.

Jiang Zhi has numerous publications including Mu Mu (1999), Shine Upon Me (2008), Neurosis and Prattle (2008), On the White (2008), Tremble (2010), If This is a Man (2012), Love Letters (2015), Love-Addict (2016, with Chen Xiaoyun), One is All, All is One, All, Predestiny (2017)

Chen Xiaoyun

Artist

CHEN Xiaoyun (1971) was born in Hubei province. Since his participation in the group exhibition 'Art for Sale' held in Shanghai in 1999, he started his contemporary art creation and practice in video art, and has become one of the most important experimental artists in the most recent decade.

CHEN Xiaoyun's works are always both artistic and poetic in style, with introspective thinking present in the narrative structure as well as the use of individual fragments of consciousness to channel the real world in pictorial form. His works usually start with a caption, a dialogue, or a motion that is then overlapped, refined, and abstracted, to make our known world more ridiculous, hesitant, and emptier.

Yang Zhenzhong

Artist

b. 1968, works and lives in Shanghai

Born in 1968 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, YANG Zhenzhong has been living and working in Shanghai for more than 20 years with a career closely related to the development of new media art around the area. Since the end of 1990s, he has been curating and organizing numerous highly influential contemporary art exhibitions with artists including XU Zhen and YANG Fudong etc. They have not only enlivened the atmosphere of the new media art industry in Shanghai, but also promoted the artist himself to stage on an international platform. The key themes of YANG’s works are to strengthen the contradictions and disorders existed in the society with a cynical attitude on one hand, to utilise the perception of the space in political and psychological levels on the other hand. Now mainly focuses on the creation of new media like video, photograph, installation work and interaction etc., and curating as well.

Wang Jianwei

Artist

Born in Sichuan province, China, now is living and working in Beijing.

Since the 1990s, he has been researching the influence of multiple sciences and cross-sectors' knowledge on contemporary art. He borrows and engages the methodologies of different disciplines in order to develop a new language for art. This opens new possibilities to recognize subjectivity among many relationships.
With this cross-fertilized knowledge, he launches philosophical inquiries to practice a cross-sector method to view the reality. Simultaneously, he transforms these visions into arts forms, engaging in multiple mediums, including film, video, theatrical performance, digital technology, installation, painting and archives etc.

Wang Jianwei has been invited to participate many film and theater festivals, arts exhibitions and important academic events both within China and internationally. In 2008, he has been awarded by Foundation for Contemporary Art (FCA) the "Grant Recipient".
